Discover the Wild Beauty of Munnar

Located around 13 km from Munnar, Eravikulam National Park is a spectacular 97 sq km protected area in Kerala’s Western Ghats. Established in 1978, the park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, rolling high-altitude grasslands, and the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. It is also home to Anamudi Peak, standing at 2,695 metres and known as the highest peak in South India.

The park protects one of the largest surviving populations of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, making it an important wildlife destination in the Western Ghats.

The majestic Anamudi Peak rises within the park’s southern region. At 2,695 metres, it is the highest mountain in South India and a spectacular feature of the Munnar landscape.

  • Neelakurinji Blooms

Eravikulam is famous for the rare Neelakurinji flowers, whose purplish-blue blooms transform the hillsides when they appear once every 12 years.

  • High-Altitude Landscape

The park features beautiful rolling grasslands and shola-grassland ecosystems, with much of the landscape located around 2,000 metres above sea level.

Visitor Information

Tourism Area

Visitors can explore the Rajamalai tourism region, the designated public-access area of the park. Private vehicles are stopped at the entry gate, after which visitors continue by forest department-operated minibuses.

Opening Hours

The park is generally open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though timings may vary depending on park conditions and forest department regulations.

Annual Closure

The park typically closes for around 45–60 days during February and March to protect the Nilgiri Tahr during its calving season.
